Tinnitus Assessment and Treatment in Edmonton

Real relief for the ringing, buzzing, or hissing in your ears.

What to expect

Living with tinnitus in Edmonton? That ringing, buzzing or hissing in your ears is more common than most people think, and you do not have to just live with it. At our two Edmonton clinics, a registered audiologist checks your hearing, finds out what is most likely behind the noise, and builds a plan to make it bother you less. No referral is needed.

What's included

  • Tinnitus assessment with our audiologist
  • Personalized treatment plan
  • Sound-therapy and hearing-aid based options
  • Support and education so you feel in control

About 37% of adult Canadians had tinnitus in the past year, according to Statistics Canada. Our management approach follows current Speech-Language and Audiology Canada (SAC) guidelines.

What a tinnitus assessment involves

We start with a full hearing test, because hearing loss is behind a lot of tinnitus. Then we talk about the tinnitus itself: when it started, whether it is in one ear or both, what it sounds like, and how much it is getting in the way of your sleep, focus and mood.

From there we explain what is most likely driving it and what can help. If ear wax is part of the problem, we can take care of that too with our ear wax removal service.

Tinnitus treatment and management options

  • Hearing aids. If hearing loss is part of the picture, bringing back the sounds you have been missing often makes tinnitus much less noticeable. Many hearing aids also have built in tinnitus features. See how hearing aids help with tinnitus.
  • Sound therapy. Gentle background sound gives your brain something else to listen to and takes the edge off the ringing, especially at night.
  • Education and support. Understanding what tinnitus is, and what makes yours louder, takes a lot of the worry away. We also share simple habits for sleep, stress and noise.

There is rarely a single cure, and we will be honest with you about that. But tinnitus can very often be managed so it fades into the background. Our guide to tinnitus treatment options goes deeper.

When to see your doctor first

See a doctor or go to urgent care if your tinnitus comes with sudden hearing loss, a head injury, severe dizziness, ear pain or discharge. Those can need medical care first. Ringing in only one ear, or ringing that is new, is also worth checking sooner. Not sure? Read is tinnitus dangerous, or call us and we will point you in the right direction.
